Patient Preparation
Patient should be fasting for at least 8 hours. Patient should refrain from consuming biotin at least 48 hours prior to sample collection.

Preparation
Draw blood in gel-barrier tube, lithium heparin tube, and lavender-top tube. Centrifuge the gel-barrier and lithium heparin tube. If red top is used, remove the serum and place in a transport tube. Label the transport tube with patient identifiers and specimen type. For lavender tube, invert tube 8 - 10 times immediately after draw.

Received after 2 days refrigerated. Serum and/or plasma not separated from cells. Sample hemolyzed. Improper labeling. Incorrect collection container. Whole Blood sample clotted.
